Military, Small UAS Business, Verizon Team to Research UAS Delivery of Emergency Medical Supplies to Remote Areas

A small unmanned helicopter recently demonstrated the ability to deliver a 10-pound trauma kit to a wounded soldier in a hard-to-reach area and beyond the visual line of sight of the aircraft’s pilot.

During the demonstration, which took place late last year at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, a National Guard base near Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a canvas bag containing the trauma kit was attached to the belly of a Vapor 55 built by Pulse Aerospace of Lawrence, Kansas. The unmanned aircraft took off and flew seven miles to the top of a building, where it hovered down to a point 10 feet above the flat roof.
